More Orlando, I Told You This Was Boring: Delta 737-800 Comfort Plus and Delta 767-300 Delta One Review

Yep, I’m going to Orlando again. Week 3 in a row if heading down to Florida for work. Fortunately there was a slight change in the Delta schedule for the fall, instead of the usual 717 and 757 combination, I get a 737-800 and 767-300. I love a good wide-body and the 767 is always a welcome sight.

On this trip I was upgraded to First/Delta-One a few days ahead of time so that was a nice little surprise. Delta-One really isn’t a First Class product, it’s business class, but when flown domestically it’s sold as First on some routes and Delta-One on others. Delta really should work on their branding, especially because Delta-One is better service than First.

Anyway let’s get into it.

GSP Airport

Welcome back to GSP. Delta has a slightly adjusted schedule for October, I liked it. I was on a slightly later flight out of GSP with a shorter layover in ATL. That’s just about perfect for me. Especially with the sunrise getting later, it’s nice to not leave the house in the dark.

Security line was short as usual. I’ve probably taken this shot 100 times, and I’m going to show it to you again.

Upstairs and at the gate boarding was already underway. Can you see the theme with me? I really don’t like waiting around in airports. Yes, I miss flights.

My ride down to Atlanta this morning. I really like the look of the 737-800. The 737-900 is too long, the 737-700(and -600) are too short and stubby. the -800 is Goldilocks and just the right length visually.

Delta 737-800 Comfort Plus Review

Onboard in my window seat. Plenty of leg room in these Comfort Plus seats.

These 737s have IFE, but it’s an older style with a restive screen. These tend to have a good bit of glare and are a little hard to control. They are often out of calibration so selecting things is difficult. It’s still nice to have.

Nearly loaded and ready to go. It’s nice to not worry about overhead space these days of empty middle seats.

Very nice day to go for a ride.

We took off to the North East so we soon begun our turn back South.

This is a really nice day to take a flight. The Captain came onto let us know this would be a fantastic day for flying. He said he was also happy to be flying from GSP these days. The 737s don’t come here often, and he was from Greenville so he was glad to be back.

These are short flights. It was interesting(being a little fast and loose with that word) though becuase I cannot remember a 737-800 coming to GSP in several years. I’ve also not been on one since 2018 when I flew between MKE and MSP. They are starting to show their age, but it’s not an uncomfortable ride, just a little worn and dated with the IFE.

Nice view of ATL, the Pilot was very stereotypical when talking. Really old school and I enjoyed it. Good morning….folks, nice day for flying….Thanks for coming along….with us this morning. Weather is…15C… 59 degrees F down in Atlanta… We’re beginning or decent… Thanks again.

Coming into ATL on this very sunny Monday morning.

On the ground after this quick flight.

At the gate here at the B terminal.

ATL Airport Transfer

On the ground and into the B terminal. I’ve been spending a lot of time between the A and B terminal lately. I think Delta has condensed it’s operation down to cover less area, makes sense with less flights flying.

Since I was only going to the A terminal, I just walked. They’ve done a nice job decorating the tunnels at the ATL airport. Only a few years ago these were spartan, not as bad as LAX, but no where near as nice as DTW. I like the improvements.

At the gate about 40 minutes early. I didn’t bother with going to a Skyclub today.

This lovely 767 waiting to take us down to Florda. If you are flying Delta to Orlando, I’d recommend booking the 767. It’s not common to have these widebody domestic flights anymore.

They soon called for boarding but I hung around a little bit. These 767s only have a single boarding door and it’s in-front of the Delta-One cabin. I didn’t feel like getting walked past by the entire population of the plane. After they had boarded a good chunk of the plane I walked down the jet bridge.

Delta 767-300 Delta One(Domestic First Class) Review

These 767s are not the best lie flat seats in the world, but they are more than adequate for this hour long flight.

Basically unlimited leg room for me.

While somewhat full, there were still a few empty seats.

Headphones and Purell wipes were provided, but I used my Sonys. The little side table is always nice to have. I gave everything a nice wipe with the Purell, I mostly focus on touch points and places around my face.

All packed up and ready to go.

Off the gate we slowly taxied to the runway. There’s something special about a large plane. It’s not an A380 or 777 but I will always enjoy a nice widebody.

See you later Atlanta. This 767 took off like a rocket. It was very lightly loaded for our short flight down to Orlando.

It’s been about 2 years since I’ve ridden on a 767 up front. I’ve flown these to Europe mostly, but I’ve done a few trans-cons into and out of LAX on these. Many years ago Delta had a domestic 767 fleet with 2-2-2 seating in the front, those were retired in 2018.

Once airborne I reclined my seat and relaxed for this short flight down to MCO.

Snack bags were distributed. As I’ve said before, I really like this style of service on a short flight.

This was a very nice day for flying.

Power in every seat and don’t forget a 2 into 1 adapter for your own headphones.

Starting to have a little bit of Orlando into view.

The airport coming into view. This infrastructure is always interesting to me.

And on the ground. This was a very uneventful flight but was very comfortable in my seat.

Into the gate with the 757s in the background.

Final Thoughts

While this is my 3rd trip to Orlando in as many weeks, it was a little bit of a change. The 737-800 is starting to age, but still has good amenities. I wouldn’t avoid them by any means. Some of them have updated seats and IFE, those are very nice rides, unfortunately it’s not possible to tell what one you’ll get.

The 767-300 is a great plane for this short flight down to Florida. Looking back at the cool places that the 767 has carried me, Orlando isn’t the most glamorous or exciting, but it’s very comfortable. If you have the opportunity, Delta has quite a few domestic routes during COVID, I’d highly recommend it. If it fits my schedule, I’d gladly fly this again(and I will shortly).
