Home2 Suites Columbia, SC. Fort Jackson Hotel Review

As is probably pretty clear by now, I live in Greenville South Carolina. Columbia SC is about a 2 hour drive from by house. Tonight I’ll be reviewing The Home2 Suites Columbia SC. This Home2 Suites is right next to Fort Jackson. While I’ve worked all over the South East, I don’t often visit Columbia. There are a few reason for that, nothing intentional, just the way the world works out. This is one of those few trips that I’ve taken to Columbia SC. It’s just a drive for me so no flights today.

For this trip I booked a just a single night at the Home2 Suites Columbia SC. It’s very close to Fort Jackson just to the southeast of Columbia. This isn’t downtown or near popular hangout spots in Columbia like Five Points. I was working in this area and for just a single night stay, didn’t want to go out of the way for a nicer area. Anyway, let’s talk about the Home2 Suites Southeast Columbia.

Home2 Suites Location

So the very correctly named Home2 Suites Columbia SC Southwest Fort Jackson is exactly where you think it would be. Southwest of Columbia right next to Fort Jackson.

This is the street the Home2 Suites is on. Not exactly a cute walking district. The good news is that if you’re a fan of fast food, you have lots of options. Every different fast food and fast casual chain was on this street, you won’t starve, but it will be very meh.

Home2 Suites Public Areas

The Home2 Suites is set back a little back from the main road, it’s behind the Dunkin Donuts. The main lobby is out front under the cover and along the side was a patio area that had grills and people could relax there.

I checked in using the Hilton App on my phone and because I picked a room near the rear of the building, I parked in the back and let myself in.

I then took the stairs up to my 3rd floor room. Just a little note, these stairs are not all the same height. The height difference between all of the steps are consistent on each set, but between the sets it’s a noticeable difference. It was very odd and not something I was expecting.

The hallways are very standard for this caliber of hotel. Just one long hallway that ran the length of the building. My room was just a few doors down and on the right. I try to pick rooms away from elevators because the foot traffic can sometimes be a little noisy.

Home2 Suites King Room

Home2 Suites Columbia

I walked into the standard king bed suite here at the Home2 Columbia. This is very familiar and feels like almost every other Home2 that I’ve visited. There is a king size bed by the window, a sitting area with a sofa and coffee table, and a curtain that could be drawn to separate the two areas.

Along the opposite wall there is a closet, counter top area, and the TV. These rooms have lots of storage space, I’m still not sure why you’d need that much space, but I’m sure someone is thankful for it.

Farther down is a desk area, chair, and then a rolling table. There’s again more counter top space that I used to hold my bag.

Home2 Suites Columbia Alarm Clock

In the quest to find and photograph more alarm clocks, this one was nice because it provided power to charge my phones overnight. It was also dimmable as to not be to bright at night.

Home2 Suites Columbia Desk Dirt

I wasn’t particularly thrilled with the cleanliness of the desk top area. Clearly this area had missed a wipe down, nothing else in the room was bad, just always makes you question.

Home2 Suites Kitchen Area

Home2 Suites Columbia Kitchen

While this looks identical to the Orlando Universal Home2 Suites, I promise this is a different hotel in a completely different state. I love the full size fridge, dishwasher, sink, and microwave. It really can service as a good leftovers kitchen. They can even provide hot plates and pans if requested.

Coffee make here at the Home2 Suites Columbia, along with real mugs and glasses. Home2 is marketed more as an extended stay hotel and these features really make it compete well in that space.

Plates, bowls, and thankfully paper towels. I really think all hotels should start providing paper towels or napkins along side the coffee machines. Eating takeout is so common these days.

Home2 Suites Bathroom

Home2 Suites Columbia Bathroom

The Home2 suites brand is pretty predictable and standardized. The bathroom is no exception.

Even though this was a very new hotel, there were some issues. This was just sloppy finish work. It was pretty clean in here, just felt like it was a little cheaply built. Nowhere near as bad as the Hampton Inn Hartwell Ga, but no where near as polished as the Home2 Suites Troy Ohio

Home2 Suites View

Let’s just say the room’s view was unremarkable. Unless you like looking at a very old Day’s Inn that I’m still not sure if it was open or not. The parking lot was empty but there was some activity going on around the building.

Final Thoughts

The Home2 Suites Columbia Southeast was in the perfect location for this particular trip. I’m really not sure if I’d stay here again. The hotel was kinda loud with people walking around and the walls just seemed thin. The area is very meh and while there are lots of food options, they are almost all fast food. Taco Bell has it’s place, but I’d much prefer something different, and I drove a good distance to be able to get something better.

The hotel itself was more than large enough and the bed was good. I also like the Hilton App and using it instead of going to a front desk, so big plus in my book. I wish this hotel was a little better cared for but it did the job.

The Home2 brand is a good one, very consistent. Especially in the time of takeout, it’s nice to have a useful kitchen.
