Travel Guide: Delta A321 First Class Vs. Comfort Plus Vs. Economy Review

The Delta A321 is common and one of the newer aircraft in the Delta fleet. Delta has 126 of these making it the second most common aircraft in the fleet. On the Delta A321, I’ve flown in every cabin and pretty much every type of seat. It’s a nice ride in every cabin but there are some seats that are better than others.

While I don’t usually buy anything above Economy, I’ve been luckily enough to be upgraded to both First and Comfort Plus on the Delta A321. I’m always happy to snag an upgrade and the A321 is no exception. The Delta A321 is a good aircraft that’s a real work horse of the fleet. It’s large enough for some trunk line routes like ATL-SLC but also small enough for thin routes like ATL-ABQ. Delta also likes to employ them on high frequency routes like in and out of MCO.

Because none of the routes the A321 is on are very long, and it’s a nice ride in most seats, I’m always glad when I see it on the schedule. Here are my opinions on the different seats available on the Delta Air Lines A321.

Delta A321 Seats and Leg Room

Delta usually utilizes the A321 on 2-4 hour routes. On those types of flights the name of the game is getting to the destination. The seat isn’t usually special, it’s a means to an end. On the Delta A321, all of the seats are adequate, but sitting in first class or Comfort Plus has it’s advantages.

Delta A321 First Class Seats

Delta A321 First Class Seat Legroom

The Delta A321 First class seats are regular recliner seats. There’s adequate leg room and the width is good. Plenty comfortable for the relatively short flights these A321s fly.

Delta A321 Comfort Plus Seats

The Delta A321 has an interesting Comfort Plus situation, there’s an exit row right in the middle of it. On the right hand side are some of the best Comfort Plus seats in the Delta fleet. Basically unlimited leg room in this row.

Delta A321 Economy Seats

The regular Delta A321 Economy seats aren’t anything special. If you’re a tall person you might think they are a little tight. I’m not tall so I fit just fine, but it’s not exceptional.

Delta A321 Exit Row Leg Room

If you get lucky there’s an exit row towards the rear of the plane. It has tons of leg room, but the view from the window isn’t great.

Delta A321 Service

Again, because of the short routes the Delta A321 services the meal and snack services offered are pretty consistent with the other aircraft on these routes.

Delta A321 First Class Snack Service

On flights of less than 3 hours, Delta provides a beverage service and a snack basket. I really like the Tip-Top cocktails that are served these days.

Delta A321 First Class Snack Service

On longer flights they offer a snack box. I also like the Sweetwater beer options provided these days. On longer flights they do provide a lunch box with a sandwich or salad, but I don’t have a picture of that on an A321.

Delta A321 First Class Breakfast

On longer flights(900 miles or more) Delta offers a full plated meal. This is a breakfast I had on a recent A321 First Class Flight.

Delta A321 Comfort Plus Snack Service

Delta A321 Comfort Plus Drink and Snack Service

In Delta Comfort Plus on the A321 the beverage options include alcoholic options along with the regular snack options. Here Val got a Bloody Mary.

Delta A321 Economy Snack Service

Delta A321 Economy Snack Service

In economy there’s a snack and beverage service, but booze isn’t included. I’m boring so I usually just get water. Served here with almonds, but I do prefer the Cheeze-its or Goldfish option.

Delta A321 Entertainment

All of the seats on the Delta A321 have in-seat entertainment. Some seats are better than others though.

Delta A321 In Seat Entertainment

Nice big touch screens here in first class on the A321. These are very responsive and have a great selection of movies and TV shows. There’s also USB power in every seat.

Delta A321 Comfort Plus In Seat Entertainment

Delta Comfort Plus In seat Entertainment

In Comfort Plus on the Delta A321 some of the seats have the in seat entertainment on moveable arms. These have the advantage of being adjustable but the disadvantage that they must be stowed during take off and landing. So while everyone else can start or finish a movie, in these seats you cannot. Most of the Comfort Plus seats don’t have this feature, they are the normal seat back style. USB is included on these as well.

Delta A321 Economy In Seat Entertainment

Delta A321 Entertainment

The Delta A321 economy seats have good in seat entertainment as well. The screens are not as big as in First Class, but they have the same great selection and responsiveness. USB is included as well.

Delta A321 Amenities

The Delta A321 has all the amenities that a full service airline would be expected to provide. It’s pretty consistent here across all the different classes available.

Delta A321 First Class Amenities

Delta A321 Power

Delta’s A321s have power in every row, in First Class, there is one per passenger.

Delta A321 Overhead Panel

There’s also great overhead AC vents. Some other aircraft have pretty weak vents, not the A321. These are great and the overhead panel looks super modern.

Delta A321 Comfort Plus Amenities

Delta A321 Power

Delta A321 Economy Amenities

Delta A321 Power In Seat

In Economy there are 2 power outlets per row, so if there is a person in each seat, someone might be without a 110v outlet. Each seat has USB so I use that the most, but it’s always nice to use a 110v with a high amperage charger.

Delta A321 Comfort

Delta A321 First Class

The Delta A321 is perfectly acceptable for the short distance trips it makes. You’ll never end up in the seat for more than 4-5 hours. I like it much better than the Delta 737-900, but I think the Delta 757-200 is better. I wouldn’t turn down an upgrade on any of them, but I’d be happy with the A321.

Delta A321 Comfort Plus

Comfort Plus is a great option for some extra space on a flight. There’s some seats that are better than others, but none are bad. If you have the option of a window or aisle economy seat, I’d take that over a middle seat in Comfort Plus.

Delta A321 Economy

I really like these as a regular economy seat. They are a little bid wider than on most planes and there is entertainment in each seat. An exit row is great here, but they are a little far back in the plane so if you have a tight connection, don’t underestimate the time it takes to unload. I’d gladly ride on the Delta A321 in economy over the 737 or 717, but the 757 and A220 are better.

Delta A321 Final Thoughts

The Delta A321 is a real fleet rockstar. It’s used on short and medium flights and can be very comfortable in all of the cabin options.

Obviously First Class is the most comfortable and has the best service. But I usually won’t pay out of pocket for it.

Comfort Plus is a nice compromise with lots of leg room. Some seats are better than others and the exit row on the right hand side is my favorite Comfort Plus row in the entire Delta fleet.

Economy on the Delta A321 is functional and comfortable. It’s not a Delta One Suite but on a 2-4 hour flight, I’m not disappointed when I ride on an A321.
