European Vacation: Delta One 767-400 Business Class Flight Review DTW-LHR

This is my second flight review of the Delta 767-400 Delta One Suites Business Class seat but will be the first review of the Delta One international service on the Delta 767-400. My previous trip while in the same seats, was just domestic and those flights don’t get nearly the same level of service as the long haul flights. It’s been a long time since we’ve flown Trans-Atlantic, nearly 2 years. To say I’m excited would be an understatement, but I’m also nervous, there’s still a pandemic so we’ll be cautious and considerate.

Because the UK has pretty high Covid cases we’ve decided to just transit at LHR and fly directly to Milan. We’re going to be flying ITA(Old Alitalia) and I’m oddly excited about it.

I haven’t been on a true Delta One product in a while, Delta has a really nice looking business class product on the 767-400 but I’ve only flown it domestically so this should be a great experience. I know the seats and the rest of the hard product are great, I’m interested in the soft product and how it has changed since Covid.

At the end of the day, Delta One on the 767-400 is really a nice way to fly. The seats are great, the food was very good, the service was attentive and friendly, and the entertainment selection is massive. I can’t wait to ride in Delta One again.

In This Trip

DTW Airport

Because our connecting flight arrived into the A Concourse, we didn’t need to change via the tunnel. But we did take the train to the Skyclub.

Delta DTW

After our 2 hour layover, we headed to the gate. I’ll be honest I’m very nervous. I’ve flown long haul international flights nearly a hundred times, but not since 2019 so I’m out of practice.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Boarding

Delta 767-400 Boarding

At the gate they were running though the normal announcements and told us we’d be boarding using facial recognition biometrics. We both declined and just scanned our boarding passes. Removing our masks during a pandemic seems foolish, especially when it’s more time consuming than just scanning my phone.

Delta 767-400 Delta One(Business Class) Seats Review

Delta 767-400 Delta One Seat

Once we boarded our Delta 767-400 we found our Delta One seats on the left side of the plane. The bedding was waiting at our seats. I don’t think I’ve ever been so glad to see an airplane seat.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Seat

There is a ton of leg room, as would be expected in a lie flat seat. I stowed my bags above and the bedding at my feet.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Cabin

When flying as a couple, we mostly just sit one in-front of the other at the window. It’s an overnight flight, we’re just going to sleep anyway, we don’t ne to sit side by side and we both like looking out the window.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Seat

The in seat entertainment is the best I’ve seen. Fast, huge screen, amazing selection of shows and movies. Delta has really upped the game with this Delta One entertainment.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Seat Belt

These seats use a shoulder strap for take off and landing. It’s detachable for when the flight is at cruise and smooth.

Two overhead vents for each seat is welcome. On overnight flights I often get warm.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Seat Light

In the seat there is a night light that is controlled with the seat. There is also a set of noise cancelling headphones, I’ve used these in the past, they are ok, I’ll stick with my Sonys.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Seat Controls

This is the larger of the seat controls.

Then below the remote for the screen, there is a smaller set of controls. Has nearly everything you need.

Delta 767-400 Delta One(Business Class) Amenity Kit

Delta 767-400 Delta One Amenity Kit

The flight attendant passed through the cabin and passed out these Premium Select Kits. She apologized that they didn’t have the correct ones and they only have the ones for premium select. I honestly don’t care that much, it has all the same things I remember from the Delta One kits. I just want an eye mask.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Amenity Kit

This is a pretty standard kit. Toothbrush and paste, lotion, ear plugs, eye mask, and socks. Good enough for me.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Cabin Lights

As the boarding continued behind us, the lights in the Delta One cabin were dimmed and the mood lights were on display. I settled into the reunion episode of Friends. Yes, I’m a Friend’s fan, not a super fan, but I’ve not seen the reunion yet and don’t have HBO, so might as well…

Delta 767-400 Delta One(Business Class) Departure

The captain then made his welcome announcement and told us that we’ll have a nice smooth flight this evening. But also that we’ll have to got de-ice before heading to the runway.

The extremely friendly flight attendant then confirmed our pre ordered meals and took our coats. Looks like it’s going to be a completely full Delta one cabin tonight.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Take Off

Unfortunately we’re running a few minutes late, they had to track down some baggage. I’m a little worried about that, we have an unprotected connection in Heathrow. Our next flight is on ITA out of a different terminal.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Take Off

We made our turn towards the Atlantic and settled into our seats.

Delta 767-400 Delta One(Business Class) Evening Meal Service

Delta 767-400 Delta One Meal

Once we had climbed out of Detroit, the flight attendants went to work with the meal service. They are using the regular carts for service these days.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Meal

The tray table slides out from the table and then unfolds.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Meal

I had a beer and had pre-ordered the beef brisket. Everything arrived all on one tray, service was very effective and friendly.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Meal

The beef was good, as was the soup and salad. The chocolate mousse for desert was also very good but was absolutely huge, easily could be cut in half.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Meal

As you can see from the aftermath, I did really enjoy this meal. I’d gladly eat it again.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Cabin Lights

The trays were collected and I reclined to finish the end of my movie. The mood lights were on and I got the bedding out of its bags.

Delta 767-400 Delta One IFE

We were south of Greenland off when I decided to get some sleep. This short flights are not great for getting a lot of rest, but it’s certainly better than economy. I’m always grateful for the ability to lie down.

Delta 767-400 Delta One IFE

After a good 3-4 hours of sleep, I woke up off the coast of Ireland.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Arrival

There were some absolutely wonderful views of the sunrise and clouds below.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Arrival

I’m pretty sure this is a United 787, but it’s hard to tell.

Sadly we’re running about a half hour behind, I’m still nervous about our connection in LHR. If we miss it, there’s not another flight for 8 hours and even then, with the un-protected connection we’d likely have to just buy tickets as a walk up fare.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Breakfast

For breakfast there was a hot omelet or cold yoghurt option. I hade the Omelet, it was ok, I’m not a big fan of well done eggs and plane eggs are always well done.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Arrival

As we descended we passed over the Irish Sea. Lots of little windmills making power below.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Arrival

Departing Chocolates were distributed. I love these things.

Delta 767-400 Delta One Arrival

Looks like it’s a cloudy day here in London. Not a huge surprise, it’s England in November.

Delta 767-400 Delta One LHR

Under the clouds I’m always surprised how green the UK is, even in winter.

Delta 767-400 Delta One LHR

And Finally at the gate. We really need to hustle, our next flight leaves in less than an hour and we need to change terminals. Sadly that’s for another time and it doesn’t go well…

Delta 767-400 Delta One Final Thoughts

The Delta 767-400 is such a great aircraft in business class. While there is no door on the suite, the screen is huge, the bed is comfortable, and the service was excellent. I’m really glad that I’ve had the chance to fly on this plane twice this year.

I’m very fortunate that I can use the miles I build up during the year to take vacations. While traveling during Covid is a little stressful, I’m glad we’ve been able to get out and see places. It’s obviously different than before, but it’s still good. The service in Delta One was great, very friendly and efficient. On these overnight flights the name of the game is fast service to preserve as much sleep time as possible, Delta nailed it on this one.

I’d be glad to fly this plane and route again.
