Today is a fun one, we’re going to Costa Rica for a wedding! We’ll be riding on a Delta 757-200 in Comfort Plus for the trip down. I’ve been on lots of Delta 757-200s(Here’s an economy review if you want to check it out) but it’s been a while, seems like the other large narrow body planes have taken over much of that flying. I always liked the 757, it’s a comfortable ride and it has a few features that other narrow body planes just cannot match.
This Delta 757-200 Comfort Plus flight from ATL to LIR is just about 4 hours gate to gate. The overall experience was very pleasant, it was on time, the service was good, and the ride on the 757 is great. Another plus was the views we got while passing over islands in the Gulf of Mexico and then the Central American coast line. The Liberia Guanacaste Airport was also very easy for international arrivals. Departure was a different story and I’ll cover that in another review.
Date of flight: February 2023

Delta 757-200 Comfort Plus Boarding

After spending about an hour in the ATL Concourse E Skyclub we walked to the gate. We arrived just a few minutes before boarding started and sat down. Pre-boarding was soon called.

Our Delta 757 was waiting outside to take us down to Costa Rica. It’s really hard to beat the looks of the 757, it’s just a great looking aircraft.

After First Class was called it was our turn in Delta Comfort Plus. The 757 boards much faster than most other narrow body aircraft, mostly because it uses the second door.

We boarded and here’s where the 757 is great, you can turn right or left. To the right is half of Comfort Plus and then main cabin. To the left is the other half of Comfort Plus and then First Class. Today we’re turning left.
Delta 757-200 Comfort Plus Seat Features and Review

The Delta Comfort Plus seats on the 757-200 are what you’d expect from an extra leg room economy seat. These ones are my favorite on the Delta 757. It’s the second row on the left hand side of the plane. This has less foot traffic during boarding.

The leg room on the Delta 757-200 in Comfort Plus is great, lots of space for a bag under the seat and my feet too. There’s also power in each row, 2 110v universal ports per row.

We booked the window and aisle seat leaving the middle seat empty. Unless it’s a completely full flight, it’s often that people would avoid sitting in the middle seat so we take this gamble sometimes. It payed off when we went to Alaska. Unfortunately at the last minute someone arrived, oh well. I scooted over and offered my aisle seat to them.

The overhead vents on the Delta 757s aren’t amazing. This style of personal air nozzle just doesn’t put out that much air. At least the temperature on this flight was pleasant and it didn’t really matter.
Delta 757-200 Comfort Plus In Seat Entertainment

All of Delta’s 757s have in seat entertainment, but some are better than others. This is the best type, big screens, large selection, and USB power for each person. These planes use the same screen for Main Cabin Economy and Comfort Plus. First Class has a slightly larger screen, but the content is the exact same across all 3 cabins.

Once boarding had completed, and I had slid over to the middle seat, the flight attendants made their welcome and started the safety video.
Delta 757-200 ATL Departure

We pushed back from the gate right on time. It’s kinda raining, cold, and overcast here in Atlanta. The weather in Costa Rica is forecast to be very different. Hot and sunny.

After a short taxi to the runway we lined up and they just trundled down the runway. I though it was a little odd and the pilot came on and explained what happened. As soon as we got lined up, they turned the airfield around due to winds. So instead of taking off to the west, we ended up leaving to the east. It doesn’t make a huge difference on this flight.

After we turned around on the runway, we took off to the east. Even when somewhat heavily loaded, the 757 really climbs quickly.

We soon passed into the clouds. The pilots had warned us the first few minutes would be a little bumpy, but really it wasn’t bad at all.
Delta 757-200 Comfort Plus Cabin

As we continued our climb, I put on a movie and settled into the flight.

Outside we’re still going through the layers of clouds.

Soon enough we passed through the top layer and it was very smooth sailing for the rest of the flight. The seat belt sign was turned off and the flight attendants made their welcome announcements.
Delta 757-200 Comfort Plus Snack and Drink Service

The tray tables on the Delta 757-200 in comfort plus.

Delta Comfort Plus gets to choose some snacks from the snack basket. It’s pretty much the same as what’s offered in First Class on short flights and an enhanced offering from what’s available in Main Cabin Economy.

Along with the snacks, Delta Comfort Plus gets free drinks. Val went with the Topo Chico hard seltzer along with plenty of snacks.

I decided on a Sweetwater Hazy IPA along with pistachios and chocolate cookies.

The Delta 757-200 cabin is nice and quiet here.
Delta 757-200 Comfort Plus Views

Outside the clouds had cleared and we got some nice views.

We passed over the Gulf of Mexico and got a great view of the Keys and Cuba.

The views in this part of the world are really incredible.

The little barrier islands are my favorite part.

Cuba is also a beautiful looking country from the air. I’d love to visit some day.
Delta 757-200 Bathroom

The Delta 757-200 has several bathrooms. There’s one up front for first class. One in the middle of the plane then 2 more in the rear.

The lavatories on the Delta 757-200 aren’t anything amazing. There’s enough space to be usable but aren’t huge. At least the head room and wall curve isn’t too intrusive.

Looking forward from the middle door in flight on the Delta 757-200.
Delta 757-200 Comfort Plus Second Drink Service

Ok, this is cheating. I brought a sandwich from home. Knowing this flight is over lunch time I packed a sandwich to bring along. There’s no meal service on this flight for Comfort Plus or Main Cabin economy passengers, just drinks and snacks.

A few minutes later the flight attendants came around with their drink service. I had another Sweetwater.
Delta 757-200 Approach to LIR

About an hour from landing in LIR the flight attendants came around to collect garbage. I am on my second movie for the flight, I won’t get to finish it though. That’s ok.

Outside we got a great view of the scenery as we began to descend into Costa Rica. The pilots told us it would be about 90f on the ground once we landed.
We got a great view of some beaches as we approached LIR.

Just a few moments before touch down. I was expecting it to be a little more lush, but it’s the dry season right now.

And on the ground here in Liberia Costa Rica after 3:30 minutes in the air. The good thing is that the terminal isn’t super busy right now.
Delta 757-200 Comfort Plus Final Thoughts

One last look at the Delta 757-200 here at LIR. We then passed through immigration and customs, both were very fast. There was no landing paperwork required for Costa Rica, just a few questions and we were stamped and on the way.
All in, this Delta 757 flight in Comfort Plus was very comfortable and pleasant. The flight was on time. The Delta Comfort Plus seats are more than adequate for these length flights. The in seat entertainment screen and selection were both very good too. I also used the new free wifi on this flight, a very nice feature that’s being rolled out to the Delta fleet.
Delta Comfort Plus does come with better drinks and snacks than Main Cabin Economy, but not a full meal like First Class. So if you’re flying over lunch time, it’s best to bring your own. Just remember you often cannot bring most food products like fresh fruit or meats into other countries.
I enjoyed this Delta 757 flight and will gladly fly on one again.
