More Orlando, I Told You This Was Boring: Homewood Suites Universal Studios Review

So this Homewood Suites and I have a history. This hotel is extremely close to Universal Orlando so it would be a great choice if you are planning a vacation. However, like the last 3 weeks, I’m not here for vacation. It’s also the time of COVID, so I’m not taking advantage of the area or the amenities that the hotel has to offer.

This hotel is one that over the years, I have about 200 nights in. One year they even sent me a Christmas card. Not Hilton, this hotel directly went to Hallmark, purchased a card, had the staff sign it(I was on a first name basis with nearly all of them), and then mailed it to my house. Yea, I’m familiar with this place.

Welcome to a Florida sunset over a relatively boring hotel. Like I said, I’m very familiar with this hotel. I’m also avoiding the lobby and other public areas these days, with the Hilton App I’m using the digital key to enter via the stairwell and head to my room.

Not sure why, but I’ve been in several green stairwells lately. This hotel isn’t very tall and I selected a room near, but not next to, the stairs.

One very long hallway makes up this building. The lobby and pool are on the front.

Into the room you can see the living room of the suite. As the name would imply, Homewood Suites are in fact all suites. It’s nice during COVID to have the space to relax and eat.

The small kitchen area. If I was here on vacation with a family, this would be a huge advantage. There’s a full size fridge, dishwasher, 2 burner stove, and all the supplies needed to make simple meals.

The small table is not particularly useful for me, but I understand why it exists.

I have a single king room, the age of the room is starting to show. There are few outlets around the bed and no USB power ports.

The bathroom is the old school partial in-room type. When traveling alone it’s not a big deal, if you are a couple or as a group, it can be a little annoying at night if someone gets up and needs to turn on lights to see.

Shower and toilet area was starting to show some age. It was clean and well maintained, but it’s got some wear.

Ok, so this is very boring and pedantic, but there’s no guide button for the remote.

The view from my room and pool area looks so nice. Like many extended stay style hotels there is a public use grill and outdoor kitchen area. I’m sure many families really enjoy this area as a break from the activities in the area. As you can see, these days, it’s very empty.

Final Thoughts

This is a good hotel that’s showing some age. It has all the amenities that you would expect from a Homewood Suites. During regular times, they have an evening dinner and happy hour, they also have a shuttle bus to Universal Orlando. If you’re planning a Universal Orlando vacation and want to burn some Hilton Points or are looking for a cheap full service hotel, I would recommend this place.

It’s a very boring hotel in a somewhat exciting area. Unfortunately I’m not here to do exciting things.
